The Alert is now resuming regular coverage of upcoming Hammer Awards, which are presented to teams of federal employees who have made significant contributions in support of reinventing government principles. More than 1000 Hammer Awards have been presented to teams comprised of federal employees, state and local employees, and citizens who are working to build a better government. NSF ANNOUNCES DIGITAL GOVERNMENT RESEARCH FUNDING

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is accepting proposals for its new research program in Digital Government, with $2.5 million requested funding for FY99. An announcement of the program, soliciting proposals from university computer/information science researchers in partnership with federal agencies, can be found at http://www.nsf.gov/cgi-bin/getpub?nsf98121. You are encouraged to review the announcement and consider whether your agency might be interested in submitting a proposal. Proposals must be submitted no later than September 1, for FY 1998 submissions and March 1 for FY 1999 and thereafter. For more information, contact Lawrence E.
